Certified

Authorized to get Medicare or Medicaid payment for nursing home residents, because they meet federal standards of care. Although the standards for certification are national standards set by the federal government, the federal government has made the Illinois Department of Public Health the agency that inspects nursing homes to see if they meet federal standards. “Certified” also refers to nursing assistants, who get certificates from Public Health allowing them to work, rather than being “licensed” as medical professionals.
