2011 Reform Law

The 2011 nursing home reform law was triggered by the Chicago Tribune series on multiple deaths and horrible care in nursing homes for children and adults with developmental disabilities.  Many of the requirements of the 2010 law were incorporated into the 2011 law, although the increased staffing requirement in the 2011 rule will apply only to facilities that provide skilled care.  A requirement that we were able to get only into the 2011 law, requires these nursing homes to report all resident deaths to the local coroner and to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
